Team huh!

Schedule & Results

Fury is an elite women’s ultimate frisbee team based in the San Francisco Bay Area, although a few players commute from afar. Since its inception in 1997, Fury has earned a reputation for excellence on the ultimate field by melding athleticism, experience, dedication, and teamwork. That combination has helped Fury earn nine National Championships (1999, 2003, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012), three Runner-Up finishes (2002, 2013, 2014), and the right to represent the USA at eight World Championships (2000, 2002, 2004, 2008, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2014) winning Gold in 2008 and 2010 and Silver in 2012 and 2014.

Over the years, Fury has been comprised of a diverse group of women, but everyone has shared a common goal: to excel at the sport we love, together.

We missed a day, whoops! You could say it’s a busy time of the season.

#FuryXX DAY THREE: How did we get the name Fury?

The name comes from the Greek Furies, or the Erinyes. Furies are known as avenging goddesses of the underworld and female spirits of justice and vengeance.

One of the Furies involved in naming our team was a player named Lena Ting. She says, “The name 'the Furies' was fitting because there had been a few years of crazy instability [in the division] when Mainiacs and Whirled Peas dissolved. Fury was formed with some great veterans of the club scene with multiple national championships and top college talent in the area."

Lena also created our first set of jerseys (aka t-shirts! The blue one in the photo). After a series of other jersey designs, it evolved in 2003 into the one you see in the third photo. Each prong of the triangle logo represents each of the three Furies in the Greek myth (it's a stretch, we know).

#FuryTrivia for Day 3 is: In 2004, Fury rocked the white jerseys shown in the photo at Worlds. This was the first year of our sponsorship with which brand?

Remember, correct guesses enter you into a drawing for a Fury fanny pack. We will pick the winner on Wednesday!

While it's been tough that the air quality has been too unhealthy to practice in the week leading up to Nationals, it's nothing compared to so many who have lost so much. Our hearts go out to everyone affected by the fires, including some current and former teammates. This morning we practiced in an empty office - controlling the controllables and being present together. #roadtosarasota ... See MoreSee Less
